One person leans to another’s ear; we never hear what is said. The listener’s hand tightens on whatever it is already holding.
Why it's hard
Models put both faces toward the lens and play the reaction as expression. Excluding the camera from a private moment is the opposite of what they are trained to do.
The reaction lives in the hands, not the face. Put the tell on the object being held.

Killing the eye close-up is the whole exercise: the emotional information is displaced into a clementine. Sciamma fits because her two-handers exclude the viewer on purpose — the camera watches a relationship it is not part of. Vary the held object, but choose one that deforms visibly under pressure so the pressure is readable.
Both heads rotating toward the lens as the whisper lands, plus an audible whisper track and a knowing smile — the moment gets presented to the audience instead of withheld.
