Strike, flight, net. The ball has to deform on the boot.

The brief

A player strikes from outside the box and the ball finds the top corner, snapping the net. Follow the ball or hold on the strike — either works, but the net reaction has to sell the power.

Why it's hard

Two soft-body problems in one shot. The ball compresses against the boot for a few milliseconds and springs back; the net is a cloth simulation that has to absorb and release. Most attempts give you a rigid ball and a net that barely moves.

Success criteria

  • The ball visibly deforms at the moment of contact and recovers its shape in flight.
  • The net absorbs the shot and rebounds — it is cloth, not a painted backdrop.
  • The plant foot is planted: it stays fixed while the striking leg swings through.

Why it's built this way

Ball deformation is given a duration — two frames — because that is the physical detail that sells contact, and the model will skip it unless told. Shooting through the net gives you a dirty foreground for free and, more importantly, teaches the shot's real subject: the net's stretch-and-slack is the goal, not the ball's flight. Vary the camera position from behind the goal to alongside the striker and notice how much of the drama moves with it.

Watch for

A rigid undeformable ball and a net that behaves like a stiff curtain — no pocket, no rebound; if the net is wrong, make the net the named subject of the last sentence and shorten the run-up description.
